What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

I have learnt various techniques and skills using iMovie, during the making of my media product which was an opening for a horror genre film.
iMovie was relatively simple to control. Importing video from a digital camera was very simple. I had to put the USB cable onto a Mac computer USB slot and press import camera, it was very simple and reliable.

Editing the actual film was simple as well. All I had to do was select what I wanted, and then trim what I did not want. Once I edited what I needed, I decided to see what other features iMovie had.  For example, I wanted to import some of my own pictures and music. iMovie let me select these items directly from iTunes and iPhoto. I did not have to go around looking for them; everything was there for me. I could also exit without saving which was good as it saved automatically. The transitions and on video text made it easier to make my sequence look a lot like a real film.

Overall I was very impressed with how easy iMovie was to use. I definitely like it better than Windows Movie Maker and would recommend this software to anyone wanting to edit video. The only drawback is that the user must be using an Apple or Mac computer in order for it to run.

The audio for my media product used were various sound effects, voice overs and sound tracks. For the sound tracks, my partner and i had to look for an uncopyrighted soundtrack therefore went onto Freeplay music and downloaded a sound track which we both agreed suited our media product. http://www.freeplaymusic.com/search/

Afterwards, we looked through various sound effects which were already available on iMovie and chose diegetic and non diegetic sounds to add into our media product, iMovie made our time more manageable as the available sound effects saved time, although we did do voice-overs and download one extra sound effect. The audio could also be trimmed and made louder and quieter.
The editing was quite easy to do with Imovie, as there were a variety of transitions and the clicking and dragging and shortening clips made it easier to use also more reliable. Due to the genre of our media product being a horror, my partner and I decided to change the colour of our sequence to make it look eerie and gloomy, using iMovie made this quite easy to do as i simply chose the clip i wanted to edit and change the brightness/saturation.

Who would be the audience for your media product and why?

For a  part of my research and planning, my partner and I decided to do some audience research and conducted a survey given to various people, from the results of our survey which was in a form of an questionnaire, we found that many people from ages 16-18 were very interested in horror and vampires and witches were the most liked horror supernatural character, also most enjoyed horror drama compared to horror comedy, horror romantic and horror thriller.

After my groups results, i decided to do further research, therefore had a look at the BBFC website in order to have a look as to whether our media product would fit into classifications that are distributed within the UK. http://www.bbfc.co.uk/ Our media product fit the 12A classification as they were our audience we decided to focus on and due to our gore and blood; we decided not to lower the age classification. Also, similar media products such as the film Twilight is also a 12A rating.

The audience that was focused on were teenagers to young adults, from ages 12-23 years, although ages above 23 may also enjoy the sequence. Gender of the audience is uni-sex as i believe the media sequence shows equality between males and females, also due to the variety of ethnicities we used, the media sequence would be suitable for any race/ethnicity. Due to the sequence being multi-cultural, the sequence would be suitable for any class. The interests of our media product audience would most likely be those who enjoy films, particulary horror and teen drama, therefore its suitable for an audience who prefer multiple genres.

Also it does not go by the usual film theory, for example Todorov's film theory is that there is usually a incident in the middle of a film, me and my partner twisted the usual theory and made our sequence unique by adding a incident at the opening of our product.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My partner and I have created a media product which is an opening for a film called 'Dark tales: the last vampires'; therefore contains many convention and forms of films. Our media is of a horror genre and has a sub-genre of teen horror. Our media product is quite similar to another teen horror film called Twilight, which was distributed by Summit Entertainment. Here is a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summit_Entertainment I believe my media product could be distributed by Summit Entertainment due to the similarities in the media products, as they distribute various horror genre films.. Here is an example of a similar product distributed by Summit Entertainment:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2T7d8j6I5I of Twilight.

Summit Entertainment have a large gross from the Twilight Sagas, as they grossed $191.500 in 27th March 2009, which rose for the final element of the saga;Breaking Dawn Part 2 which grossed over $100million.
This connotes that Summit Entertainment as a distributor are convienent and professional, as they had a large gross in a horror genre movie which fits the same genre as my media product and Summit entertainment due to their excellent distributing and marketing and exhibition will be highly beneficial for my media product and Summit entertainment may consider distributing my media product.

After doing Questionnaires and and researching into our audience, we decided to focus on a horror genre and focus it on teen age group. Another company which may distribute our media product would be Lions Gate Entertainment which distributes similar products too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lions_Gate_Entertainment Here is an example of a film Lions gate have produced, it is similar to my media product as it is of a horror genre and fits the supernatural 'creatures' i decided to include in my media product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAn5uLNMmjk - Shadow of the Vampires.
